The Watchers - Today

Bay Area heavy rockers THE WATCHERS have signed to Ripple Music for the Oct. 21 release of their Sabbath Highway debut EP. The band premieres with a new video for the track “Today”, that serves notice of the ass-kicking ethic to come on this release and hopefully going forward as well. Founded by members of SPIRALARMS and ORCHID, they’re a four-piece who wear their love of fuzz on their sleeve à la Valley of the Sun if “Today” is anything to go by, and the hook they proffer in the track is made all the more classic-feeling by the Evel Knievel footage they’ve chosen to accompany it. If you feel like maybe you can get down, that would be advisable.

"Sabbath Highway" presumably named for the stretch of road upon which THE WATCHERS are burning asphalt in their four-seater riff-fueled fuzzcycle — is the absolute first release from the band, which is comprised of vocalist Tim Narducci and bassist Cornbread (both formerly of SPIRALARMS), guitarist Jeremy Epp and drummer Carter Kennedy (ORCHID). No surprise that seasoned players would have an idea of what they want to do with their sound, but as they demonstrate with “Today,” their love of heavy rock spans about four decades’ worth of influence, from then to now, and they’re looking to make their mark as a unit starting with these five tracks.

Today's tune is the first video “Today”, it was put together by the band paying homage to the late great 70’s daredevil Evel Knievel. All hand picked footage by the band to guide the song along with its statement: No regrets, never look back, and live in the moment. This guitar line driven tune sprinkled with some TRAVERS and THIN LIZZY influence, will draw you in and make you a believer…. Rock and roll ain’t going away… it’s alive and here to kick your ass.

The Mystery Lights - Follow Me Home

Mike Brandon and L.A. Solano have been in many different versions of THE MYSTERY LIGHTS under assorted monikers since their teens. In a heroic jump from the small town of Salinas, California to NYC, the band solidified its lineup to also include Alex Amini, Kevin Harris, and Noah Kohll. The explosive live shows gradually became the stuff of legend, as the quintet won their following one fan at a time in dives from Brooklyn to the Bowery. Organically unfolding over the nights months and years, the Lights’ sound has evolved into a fuzz-fueled hopped-up 21st Century take on 60s garage pebbles, and artful 70s punk, that is all their own.

2016 finds these rock’n’roll knights embarking upon the next logical step - unleashing their own brand of kick out the jams on tour and in the studio. When Daptone Records launched their Wick Records rock imprint, they wasted no time approaching THE MYSTERY LIGHTS as their inaugural act.

Today's tune "Follow Me Home" is taken from the debut self-titled album by THE MYSTERY LIGHTS, released on June 24th via Wick Records. The video featuring a cameo photographer Ricky Powell. Directed / Edited / Filmed by Rob Weird (art-house cinema auteur/ musician/ thespian/ tim burton enthusiast); Check out his instagram @rob_weird. Kissin' Dynamite - If Clocks Were Running Backwards

Baden-Württemberg, Germany-based glam metal group KISSIN' DYNAMITE have filmed a music video for the track "If Clocks Were Running Backwards", which can be viewed below.

The band will release their fifth full-length studio album "Generation Goodbye" on July 8th, 2016 in Europe through AFM Records. The label have scheduled US release for the 22nd.

Still being young of age (average 25 years), KISSIN’ DYNAMITE have achieved so much in their almost 10 years of history: they’ve tasted chart success for the first time with "Addicted To Metal" (#91), reached the Top 50 with "Money, Sex & Power" in 2012 and just two years later delivered their first Top 20 album, "Megalomania", which entered the album chart in Germany on #17! The following headlining tour proved that the band’s fanbase has grown enormously. 2016 sees KISSIN’ DYNAMITE more confident than ever before: A band whose members are young but very experienced already, who have toured the world, advanced as songwriters and matured as performers. ‘Generation Goodbye', their newest creation, is proof of that. Welcome to the champion’s league!

"Generation Goodbye symbolically represents a feeling of longing, breakup and a new start, which frequently is thematized in the 11 new songs", Ande Braun, guitarist of the band, expresses. "And yet it's actually no concept album", adds his brother Hannes, singer & songwriter of the quintet.

The songs would be as honest and genuine as never before. The reason for this would be disengagements and changes in terms of business as well as private aspects of every single one. Thus the band parted with their management in 2014 and since then organized themselves completely self-sufficient.

Furthermore, no external producer was obligated anymore. Instead, one relied on the distinct sound concept of the band, which singer and songwriter Hannes Braun simultaniously put into action as producer on the mixing desk. "We had this vision of keeping full control this time in terms of the sound we exactly wanted. Thereby, we had the freedom to deliver the truest, most authentic and most genuine album for us, totally without any pressure or compulsion from outside". he remembers. Steffen Haile, bassist of the group, adds: "In the meantime, we cede a minimum of work and so do more and more by ourselves. We think, the more comes from ourselves, the better the end product gets".

"Of course I use writing lyrics in order to process certain incidents out of my private life, where just recently quite a bit has happened", reflects lyricist Andi Schnitzer about the lyrics!

Today's tune is the tragic "If Clocks Were Running Backwards", taken from the upcoming album "Generation Goodbye"

Nervosa - Agony

Monday, New week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

Brazil’s leading ladies of thrash NERVOSA is back with a brand new record "Agony". The thrash metal power trio from Sao Paulo, Brasil, formed by Fernanda Lira (bass and vocals), Prika Amaral (guitar and backing vocals) and Pitchu Ferraz (drums).

12 new tracks that will kick your man hood ass big time. This is really an raw and fast thrash album with a pretty decent production. It's a great crossover of classic Trash metal and Death metal where the girls in the band brings up what is best from both.

The album contains cleaver and passionate tunes of the old school area of both Death and Trash metal where the classic heavy riffs meets the testosterone blasting drums and the harsh, heavy and freaking high vocals that will scorched of your flesh on your newly sunburnt back. "Agony" is a brilliant piece of modern thrash metal that have every single great thing there is about it. "Agony" almost effortlessly merges the energy of the glorious 80s with the refined aggression of this millennium. Played even more on point and precise than debut Victim of yourself (2014), it definitely enriches the NERVOSA sound having transferred the production to the USA: the South American riff tornado is in flawless shape! NERVOSA is a malicious maelstrom full of old school darkness.

Sum: "Agony" is a must have along all the thrashers around this globe!

Today's tune "Hostages" is taken from "Agony", enjoy it!

Black Sabbath - After Forever

Sunday, time for a classic!

"After Forever" is a song by English rock band BLACK SABBATH. The song was released on their third studio album Master of Reality in 1971, and later the same year it had been released as the first single from the album, but failed to chart anywhere. The lyrics were written by Geezer Butler while the music was written by Tony Iommi.

The lyrics of the song "After Forever", written by Geezer Butler, a proclaimed Catholic, focus entirely on Christian themes. Although the album jacket credits Iommi alone as the composer of this song (including lyrics), the BLACK SABBATH Black Box Set refutes the album jacket credit and gives credit to this song (along with "Orchid" and "Embryo") to all four band members in keeping with their wishes to remain a democratic band. At the time, some viewed BLACK SABBATH as Satanists (which the band had consistently denied) due to their dark sound, image and lyrics. "After Forever" was released as a single along with "Fairies Wear Boots" in 1971. Rolling Stone reviewer Lester Bangs criticized the Christian theme of "After Forever" as too obvious, but welcomed the arrangement, while Wilson & Alroy's called the guitar sound "crude but effective".

I have been pretty lucky these last few weeks, as during my work I get the chance to see many good artist playing live all around the world and during these last weeks I have been given time to watch BLACK SABBATH play twice, almost 3 times during a two weeks period.

I saw SABBATH at Graspop, almost at Hellfest and yesterday at Copenhell, kinda cool.

Here is a few pictures from a magic night with BLACK SABBATH.

Here is the setlist from yesterday.

Fairies Wear Boots
After Forever
Into the Void

War Pigs
Behind the Wall of Sleep

Big Big Train - Folklore

The English progressive rock band BIG BIG TRAIN have recently released "Folklore".

BIG BIG TRAIN was founded in 1990. Based in Bournemouth, England, the band members are Nick D'Virgilio, Dave Gregory, Rachel Hall, David Longdon, Danny Manners, Andy Poole, Rikard Sjöblom and Gregory Spawton. Having released eight studio albums and three EPs, they were an independent band for most of their career (although they were signed to the Giant Electric Pea record label from 1993 to 1998), distributing releases through their own website. Up to 2009, BIG BIG TRAIN worked mostly as a studio project band headed by Spawton and Poole with changing line-ups and guest musicians. Since their sixth album "The Underfall Yard", which received critical acclaim from the progressive rock community, a more stable lineup has been established, and the band performed their first live concerts in seventeen years at Kings Place, London, in August 2015. The gigs were voted Event Of The Year by the readers of Prog magazine. Stone & Steel, a Blu-ray featuring the 2014 rehearsals at Real World Studios and four of the songs performed at Kings Place, was released on 21 March 2016. BIG BIG TRAIN were the winners of the Breakthrough Award at the Progressive Music Awards held at Kew Gardens, London on 3 September 2013, and have been nominated in several other categories in recent years.

The album was recorded at English Electric Studios, produced by Big Big Train, and mixed and mastered at Aubitt Studios by Rob Aubrey. It is the first studio album to feature Rachel Hall and BEARDFISHs lead vocalist Rikard Sjöblom as official members.

The album was released in multiple formats: standard and High Res downloads, as a single CD, and as a double-LP vinyl release that features two additional tracks, "Mudlarks" and "Lost Rivers of London", both of which were previously released on the 2015 EP Wassail. Both versions of the album contain the title track from Wassail, meaning that the vinyl release features all three of the original songs on the EP.

Today's tune is the title track of "Folklore", taken from the new album by BIG BIG TRAIN, was released in May 2016. The Folklore album is released on double gatefold 180gm vinyl, CD and download on 27th May 2016. Available from www.bigbigtrain.com, Amazon, iTunes, Bandcamp and all good retailers. Available to stream on Spotify and other streaming services from May 27th. Vinyl available from www.burningshed.com.

Zodiac - Follow You

"Follow You" is the second single taken from the upcoming fourth full length album "Grain Of Soul" by the fourpiece riff-laden rock band ZODIAC. The album is recorded, mixed, and produced by Arne Neurand (GUANO APES, etc.) at Horus Sound Studio in Hannover, and mastered by Grammy Award winning Jean-Pierre Chalbos (GOJIRA, etc) at La Source Mastering in Paris.

The band was formed in 2010 by singer-guitarist Nick Van Delft and Long Distance Calling drummer Janosch Rathmer. Stephan Gall and Robert Kahr joined shortly after to complete the line-up before Ruben Claro replaced Kahr in 2012. The band are heavily influenced by rock and blues music from the 1970s and it adds to the theme and style of their own music.

"Follow You" is a focused and obscenely relaxed tune, with a big melody. Looking forward to grab my hands on the album when it's out, the set release date is Jul 29, 2016.

Sixx:A.M. - Rise

Today it's Thetania's birthday, so we sing loud, high and clap our hands and celebrate her with a tune that I know she like. Yesterday did one of hers favorite rock acts SIXX:A.M. play here in Stockholm at Gröna Lund, yes she was there and she was happy about it, the smile was so big when she returned home, I guess that is a great review of the evening. I had the chance to see part of their show during the weekend, where David Draiman (DISTURBED) joined SIXX:A.M. for a MÖTLEY CRUE cover, they played "Shout At The Devil", kinda cool and very good version. Anyway...

SIXX:A.M. is a hard rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2007 by Nikki Sixx, DJ Ashba, and James Michael, and is the side project of Sixx, who was also the bass guitarist for MÖTLEY CRUE. The group is best known for their songs "Life Is Beautiful" and "Lies of the Beautiful People". The name SIXX:A.M. is a combination of all of the member's last names (Sixx, Ashba, Michael).

To date, SIXX:A.M. have released four studio albums; The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack (2007), This Is Gonna Hurt (2011), Modern Vintage (2014) and Prayers for the Damned Vol. 1 (2016), and three EPs; X-Mas In Hell (2008); Live Is Beautiful (2008) and 7 (2011).

Today's tune "Rise"! taken from SIXX:A.M.'s latest album "Prayers for the Damned". This is for you Thetania, I hope you get a great and wonderful day!

The Bloakes - Anomie

The Swedish THE BLOAKES have released their brand new EP with the excellent name "Kanye Westboro Baptist Church", released on the 20th of May 2016. THE BLOAKES floats around the 60's pop rock psychedelic but with an approach to the contemporary scene, influences go back to the days of THE BEATLES and PINK FLOYD but by bringing this to a modern sound, it sounds really groovy with cool rhythms and captivating melodies.

The band was formed by guitarists David Silverlid and Petter Kroon alongside vocalist Isak Smårs. They have together with bass player Herman Eriksson and drummer Arvid Engdahl performed shows all over Sweden.

Today's tune "Anomie" is taken from the latest EP "Kanye Westboro Baptist Church", The tune is about a friend who, while on a mushroom-induced journey, discovered God and the grace of Yeezus. Kevin Nagy did directed and filmed the video, Stay Psych!

Kvelertak - Nattesferd

Monday, New week and it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

Our brother country, Norway have a band that just took me by storm in 2010, with their self titled debut album. Their sophomore album "Meir" was a great follow up that went on the same path as the debut. Now KVELERTAK is back with their 3:rd album "Nattesferd" where they guys still have much of the past in the blood but with a new hunger to explore the musical universe. That KVELERTAK is a very charming "rock" act. There is so much influences in their music that it almost is impossible to tag them with an label, the music sprawl in all directions and edges but makes it very interesting. For an example, you will get following... Rock/Classic Rock/Metal/Hard Rock/Heavy Metal/Punk/Black Metal, you still with me, huh?

"Nattesferd" is a very pleasant album where you get the blackened riffs and furious drumming in the opening tune "Dendrofil for Yggdrasil" and in the lead single "1985" you get a heavy metal tune with classic rock riffs. The title track "Nattesferd" have a incredible groove that's make impossible to keep your body intact and "Svartmesse" sounds like a instant classic with a melody and hook from the past, just love it. The album continues with the punkish "Bronsegud - SSQ", the new direction tunes "Ondskapens Galakse" and the nine-minute power rocker "Heskebrann". The album rounds of with the killer trasher "Berserkr" and the album ends with the epic mid-tempo "Nekrodamus", a heavy piece in a typical KVELERTAK mannerism.

Sum: "Nattesferd" is something you absolutely need to add to your collection.

Today's tune is the title track from "Nattesferd". The video was shot on Fårö, a Baltic Sea island off the south eastern coast of Sweden. Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman lived and died on Fårö and several of his films were filmed there, among them Through a Glass Darkly (1961), Persona (1966), Hour of the Wolf(1968), Shame (1968), The Passion of Anna (1969), and Scenes from a Marriage (1972). The video was produced by Norwegian production company, Bacon and directed by Jakob Marky. Jakob is a recent winner of the prestigious After Bergman award which allowed the possibility of filming on Fårö. Enjoy!

Korn - Freak On a Leash

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Freak on a Leash" is a song by the American nu metal band KORN, featured on the group's 1998 studio album, Follow the Leader. Prior to the album's release, KORN had an instrumental section of the song, described as a "noisy guitar break." The section was taken out of the song after their fans requested it be taken out. After Follow the Leader's release, the song was released as a single on May 25, 1999, and since then, it has been re-released over ten times. The song uses dissonance, distortion, various guitar effects, and a heavy, aggressive style.

The "Freak on a Leash" music video was released on February 5, 1999. Directed by Todd McFarlane in Los Angeles, California, the video explores both animations and live performances mixed together. As a result, the band released a music video that won three awards, and was retired from Total Request Live. The single peaked at number six on the Alternative Songs chart, 10 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart, and 24 on the UK Singles Chart.

Yesterday, did KORN together with TWISTED SISTER headline the nowadays Classic Metal Festival "Hellfest" at Val de Moine, Clisson, France, with absolutely fantastic set. This set was my working music, couldn't have it much better to be honest. Not every day that you get a perfect working music in a good level that is enjoyable. I don't have any pictures on this, just got a fast look during the work. But the sound was great and the guys did a great show.

Crazy line up, right!

Here is the setlist from Hellfest

Black Rainbows - The Hunter

Since they formed eleven years ago in Roma, Italian trio BLACK RAINBOWS have established themselves as one of the most active fuzz-fueled rock acts in Europe, with four albums, a remarkable handful of EPs (including a split record with L.A.'s space rockers Farflung) and countless tours and festival appearances across the continent. Blending the drive and swagger of 70's hard rock with the sun-baked thickness of 90's stoner rock, BLACK RAINBOWS have managed to create their own sound imprint, that could be described as "HAWKWIND, MC-5 and NEBULA crashing cars in the middle of the Mojave desert". Closely following with their highly acclaimed effort "Hawkdope", the band have just deliver another tasty piece of their fuzzy cake with fifth full-length "Stellar Prophecy", an album that should drop in the mail box any day now. More about it later on.

Today's tune "The Hunter" is taken from the EP "Holy Moon", released 2013. So let's get riffing out with a classic stoner fuzz.

Devlidriver - Daybreak

Dark clouds over California – and everywhere else: DEVILDRIVER teamed up once again with producer Mark Lewis and the Audio Hammer Studios for their seventh opus that is nothing short of sensational! Three years after the lush Winter kills, we bear witness to the birth of a sleek new version of the band in the shape of "Trust no one", making it the longest time span between two albums in the band's history due to vocalist Dez Fafara reuniting with his former band, COAL CHAMBER.

Trust No One is the first album without original members John Boecklin and Jeff Kendrick on drums and guitars, respectively. John Boecklin was replaced by Austin D'Amond (formerly of CHIMAIRA), while Jeff Kendrick was replaced by Neal Tiemann. Chris Towning, who played bass on Winter Kills, also left and got replaced by former STATIC-X bassist, Diego "Ashes" Ibarra.

Longtime band member and guitarist Mike Spreitzer described the album as "the record [I've] been wanting to write for 12 years".

Dez Fafara described the album as a "a vicious record filled with huge grooves and big hooks, guitar bass assery and thundering drums [...] Lyrically it goes to a realistic space exploring a ton of different emotion and headspaces regarding being human and what it means to exist."

Today's tune is the record's first single "Daybreak" was released on March 19, 2016, taken from the album "Trust no one". The record was released on May 13, 2016. The Video was Directed by Shan Dan (www.shadowborngroup.com), Set Production by Jon Cooke

A Thousand Horses - Smoke

"Smoke" is a song by American country music group A THOUSAND HORSES. It is their debut release and the first from their album "Southernality".

The band formed in 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. The band is composed of Michael Hobby (lead vocals), Bill Satcher (lead guitar), Zach Brown (guitar and vocals), and Graham Deloach (bass and vocals). Their first EP, A Thousand Horses, was released under Interscope Records in 2010. In 2014, the band signed with Republic Nashville of Big Machine Label Group and released its first single "Smoke", which set a record for the highest debut by a new act when it opened at number 28 on the Country Aircheck radio chart.

The song is a ballad in which the narrator compares his lover to the substance dependence of tobacco, referring to her as a "habit that I can't let go"

Giving it a "B+", Jim Casey of Country Weekly praised the song's Southern rock and blues influences, adding that "The forlorn lyrics are despairing, but frontman Michael Hobby's gritty vocals…drive the song into an endorphin-releasing euphoria."

Today's tune "Smoke" taken from the latest album "Southernality". The music video was directed by Peter Zavadil. In the video, the band performs the song live about an erotic dancer they are watching on stage. Joseph Hudak of Rolling Stone compared the video to that of "Girls, Girls, Girls" by MÖTLEY CRUE.

Megadeth - Dystopia

Dystopia is the fifteenth studio album by American thrash metal band MEGADETH, released on January 22, 2016. The album, produced by Dave Mustaine and Chris Rakestraw, is the first by the band since 2004's The System Has Failed not to feature longtime drummer Shawn Drover and also the first not to feature guitarist Chris Broderick since 2007's United Abominations. These roles have been filled by LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler and ANGRA guitarist Kiko Loureiro, respectively.

Mustaine elaborated on possible lyrical themes, revealing that he had been reading about world history and "crazy science stuff". Both Mustaine and Ellefson had indicated that the album would feature a different musical and stylistic approach from the previous album, including a move away from a radio-oriented sound. Mustaine also stated his belief that the album sound and songwriting would be influenced by his 2014 guest performance alongside the San Diego Symphony.

In July 2014, Mustaine announced that he was editing a demo for a new track titled "Why We Lie to You". He has described the track as "kind of like if Jack Bauer was in a band, what he would sing about," and compared the song's structure with that of "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due". In May 2015, the band posted several videos clips on PledgeMusic featuring snippets of new songs, titled "The Emperor" and "Conquer... or Die". MEGADETH recorded fifteen tracks, two of which are covers: "Melt the Ice Away" by Budgie and "Foreign Policy" by Fear. "Poisonous Shadows" was stated by Mustaine to feature piano parts performed by Loureiro, as well as orchestral arrangement by Ronn Huff, father of record producer Dann Huff who worked with the band in the late 1990s. It was also announced that the album would feature a guest appearance from country musician Steve Wariner, who would perform steel guitar parts. However, neither Huff, nor Wariner were credited in the album's liner notes.

I saw a performance with MEGADETH at FortaRock just outside Amsterdam in Netherlands 2 weeks ago and it was exactly as I predicted, good show. Seen them before and they are very good live. Here is two pictures that I snapped this sunny day :)

Today's tune is the title track taken of the latest release "Dystopia"
